THE REVIEW

Personal Proposal (PPP) #1

"Beat" by the award-winning New York duo Bowery Electric is a gem that speaks for itself. A formula to capture its essence? The trip hop of Portishead magically and masterfully fused with the lunar reverberations of My Bloody Valentine (in particular, I venture, their "You Made Me Realise").

An anxious, lysergic drone counterpointed by a sweet female voice; the enchantment of "Empty Words"; the driving bass (Martha Schwendener) of "Without Stopping"; the almost apocalyptic ambient of "Under the Sun". A work capable of sometimes recalling certain Boards of Canada, at other times (see "Fear of Flying") the legendary Suicide - speaking of New York...

A beat - indeed - nocturnal and vital that alternates with deep, mysterious, disturbing sonic lakes.

Let yourself be hypnotized and start floating.
