The Blink have broken up and this is a mystery.
Even those who hated them cannot help but feel somewhat satisfied about their breakup: their existence, although irritating to some, was fundamental: they were fun, outspoken, they made music videos running naked through the streets and were fond of sex-alcohol-parties, people who could easily be found in any American blockbuster following the "American Pie" trend, or at least that’s what one might think at first glance: perhaps very few noticed their artistic essence.
Their music wasn't just teen-punk and they tried to make us understand this through this album, their last one from 2003: a collection of songs that, while not forgetting the edginess of their old tracks, sound mature and beautiful: even the single "Feeling This," with lyrics that praise sex, with its vocal intertwining and racing guitars, is a godsend. And what about "I Miss You" or "I'm Lost Without You," two love songs for the new millennium: the first vaguely dark, the second more rock and stretched to 7 minutes. And then there's "Always," catchy rock, but not trivial, "Violence," extremely powerful and hard, still beautiful, "Down," a very rock third single that seems like something new, innovative. But the true masterpiece is "All Of This," in duet with the great Robert Smith: a song that sends shivers, with an irresistible arrangement and a must-listen.
With this album, the Blink said goodbye to us, trying to give their best, and they did succeed. To be listened to without being superficial and without paying heed to prejudices.
Blink have grown up and this album is proof of that.
Much credit also goes to his technique, which is now a trademark (trust me, I’ve seen him live)!
"I Miss You," in collaboration with The Cure's singer, is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
The strength of Blink lies in the explosive bass and punked-out drums.
Blink consider it their first album because they have never been so free to unleash their creativity.
'I Miss You' is simply fantastic, ... the symbol of the Blink’s change.
"As soon as I saw it, it was love at first sight!"
"The chorus drives you crazy... and makes you want to listen to it a thousand times more!"
The album is much less carefree than the previous ones and indeed an atmosphere more somber and melancholic is felt in certain parts.
A good CD, a sign of the group’s sonic evolution, which should be noted and which turns out to be convincingly good in many parts.
