What to say... my first review!
I chose this CD because... it surprised me: remember when back in '99 three guys were running around naked on the street invading music channels? Forget it! Fortunately, Blink have grown up and this album is proof of that.
The first thing you notice is the horrendous cover (not to mention the booklet!), but analyzing the content, you can overlook it.
Well, this is not a true punk-rock album; there are Blink-style tracks (see the powerful "Go" or the classic "Here's Your Letter"), tracks that resemble metal ("Obvious"), but there are also tracks where you wonder "but are they Blink?".
There is also Robert Smith, leader of the Cure, who takes control of “All Of This”; you could say it's a Cure track featuring Blink since the rhythm is damn slow and heavy, and Smith's voice is fit for a horror film!
Another slow track is the new single "I Miss You" which features strings, but it is more tolerable since the voices of Mark and Tom compared to Smith's are like a baby's laughter! And what about that drummer who plays so well (and you can hear it!), who goes wild on tracks like "Easy Target", who carries an entire chorus ("Feeling This") solo, without accompaniment, and not satisfied gives us a 40-second drum solo (played on two drums) in the nice (and very long, over 6 min) final track! Much credit also goes to his technique, which is now a trademark (trust me, I've seen him live)!
The lyrics are more reflective, they also discuss death, as usual love, sex, adolescent problems.
In general, a good album, a different work, "the first Blink album" as drummer Travis Barker declared. One only hopes they won't think of stripping again, although the girls would go crazy!
"I Miss You," in collaboration with The Cure's singer, is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
The strength of Blink lies in the explosive bass and punked-out drums.
Blink consider it their first album because they have never been so free to unleash their creativity.
'I Miss You' is simply fantastic, ... the symbol of the Blink’s change.
Perhaps very few noticed their artistic essence.
With this album, the Blink said goodbye to us, trying to give their best, and they did succeed.
"As soon as I saw it, it was love at first sight!"
"The chorus drives you crazy... and makes you want to listen to it a thousand times more!"
The album is much less carefree than the previous ones and indeed an atmosphere more somber and melancholic is felt in certain parts.
A good CD, a sign of the group’s sonic evolution, which should be noted and which turns out to be convincingly good in many parts.
