THE REVIEW

The year is 1982 when the Sabbath decide to release this live album after their great success in the "Mob Rules World Tour". After Ozzy Osbourne's departure, the group immediately found a worthy successor: Ronnie James Dio.

Dio quickly shows all the fans what he's made of in the two albums from the Dio era, namely 'Heaven And Hell' and 'The Mob Rules'. "Live Evil" further promotes these two albums and offers a live performance that blends the best songs of the Osbourne era with the hits of the Dio era. The album features a stunning cover, one of the best of the Sabbath, with "dark" characters emerging from the sea and rushing onto a beach. Macabre…

The concert begins with an instrumental intro "E5150" which makes the following song: "Neon Knights" even more enjoyable. Even in the fourth song, Dio expresses himself at his best, interpreting "Children Of The Sea" in the best possible way. "Voodoo" I believe is the weakest of the live performance. Let's not forget the legendary "N. I. B." which is third in the order, and the subsequent "Black Sabbath", "War Pigs", and "Iron Man", which do not let us forget the original, legendary Sabbath even with Dio on vocals. Then the magical "The Mob Rules", a rock song and title track of their latest studio work, delights the audience before giving way to "Heaven And Hell", the true masterpiece of the live and the Dio era, which we will hear again at the end of "The Sign Of The Southern Cross" and "Paranoid". "Children Of The Grave" and "Fluff" close the concert.

A great live show with magnificent performances by Tony Iommi and the band, consisting of the legendary Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice who had replaced Ward due to family and health issues. Well done, Dio. This is the last Sabbath album with Dio, who will leave the group to form his eponymous band: the "Dio".

‘Live Evil’, more than thirty years after its release, is a fascinating album, paradoxically also thanks to its ‘peculiar’ sound.

Dio’s version of ‘Black Sabbath’ is one of the best, perhaps even more sinister and chilling than the original.
