BandaBardò on stage: joy mixed with “intellectual pleasure,” for those who play, but especially for those who listen, particularly (but not only..) for the many not-so-friendly pro-government supporters: strongly characterized from a textual point of view, Erriquez (a longtime vocalist..) and the company (really..) dancing, enact and convey a positive, contagious, musical propensity “to dance.”

The Mediterranean (bardò)-like (forgive me the neologism..) sonic maelstrom of the ragged, fun, amused banda-bard dressed troop, in the live dimension, takes on even richer, multifaceted and varied nuances compared to the still remarkable “but a bit cold” (in terms of “epidermic transport,” of course) first studio works: not at all banal feelings of peace, joy of living, brotherhood (God/Allah/Buddha only knows, how much is needed.. especially these days) as well as a sharp irony cloak the storytelling/vocal exploits of good Erriquez, who is truly tireless and never tamed (like all the Banda), becoming a lively spokesperson for the ethical and musical instances of the Tuscan quintet.

Skilled stage-craftsmen as well as adept performers, they produce a practically perfect show, honed by an exhausting tour that started in Alghero last June, upon the release of their fifth studio work, aptly titled “Tre Passi Avanti”. On stage, the six “possessed ones” (the drummer a bit less.. as he can't help but sit..) skillfully transform oblique and hopping light songs into authentic crowd-pulling anthems: it goes from the evergreen “20 bottiglie di vino”, “Manifesto”, or the striking opening anthem “B.B.”, to more recent tracks like “Il mistico” and “La fine di Pierrot”, all characterized by deep vitality, irony, boisterous joy of (playing..) living; even in the more intimate and “with heart in hand” brackets (Mexicostipation), the emotional tension remains surprisingly high thanks to a “melodic ability” (pardon the term) beyond classic frameworks.
Surprising, as well as definitely captivating for the amused audience, is the idea of “raffling” (a different one at each concert) and coercively and publicly making the “special guest” from the large Bardò-crew perform: considerable fun for the laughing public and (obviously) the band itself. Ehm.. when are they performing around here again??
