I couldn't imagine a better comeback for a band after a long hiatus.
The introduction of the horn section makes the sound even fuller and, in my opinion, improves the performance. Throughout the live show, the intense participation of the audience is striking (which would certainly be greater if the concert times were more acceptable).
In my opinion, the band, which evidently draws from the Clash, surpasses them in musicality, lyrics, and personality. The album immediately starts off engagingly with "Sveglia!" Right after, a very quick sequence of anthems that "warms up" (if it were ever needed) the audience. I must say that the middle part of disc 1, referring to "carabina 30-30", "Viva Zapata" and "Giunti Tubi Palanche Ska", is not up to the rest, in my opinion (particularly, carabina 30-30 is not to my taste), although it allows for a breather. The rest of disc 1 is excellent, starting with "Ska against racism" (already great, but significantly improved with the introduction of horns).
In my view, it's difficult to produce such a well-defined genre of music without being boring or repetitive. The second disc is even better, with some tracks, like "Mockba 993", "Zu atrapartu arte" (with Fermin Muguruza) and especially "All are equal for the law" (my favorite), marking authentic moments of collective delirium. "Bella ciao" is the final gem.
Whoever wants to restore communism has no brain, whoever doesn’t miss it has no heart.
It takes a great heart and no brain to love the Banda Bassotti.
