LA RECENSIONE

Even though it belongs to a genre not of our time, garage punk is still represented by a slew of musicians who keep churning out record after record, a sea of small and large productions often similar to each other and completely devoid of innovative traits.

This is the case with Bad News, a trio from Como, lovers of the Stooges, the Gun Club, and the New York Dolls.

In 2007, they debuted with the album Requiem For a Typewriter, a title sharply contrasting with the entire work and with a lineup of irreverent, raw, and rough tracks.
The sounds are particularly dry, almost incomplete (also due to the total absence of a bass), but at times softened by small Hammond parts, as in the case of The Show, perhaps the only interesting track on the album for its "bluesy" setup.

Ultimately, the songs can be listened to in one go, thanks to their direct melodies and lengths that do not exceed two minutes, but the arrangements have too many edges to smooth out and are hard to digest.

An acceptable album but not one to listen to more than once.

Summary by Bot

Bad News' debut album 'Requiem for a Typewriter' delivers a raw, irreverent garage punk sound with minimal instrumentation. Despite an interesting bluesy track, the overall arrangements feel rough and challenging, making it a one-time listen for most. Influences from iconic punk bands shape the album, yet it lacks innovation and polish.
