Following her husband's death from cancer, Fern bravely sets out on a journey in a van turned into a "home," working for short periods in different places like an Amazon warehouse, the restaurant chain Wall Drug, a stone retailer, in beet fields, etc., crossing the States from Nebraska to California and back, stopping along the way in parking lots that host caravans and trailers with many people similar to her, people who for one reason or another prefer to live without putting down roots, people who, however, do not resemble her; everyone has their own story and everyone is in their own way, but all respect others in their unique journey towards a nearly uncertain future, mostly helping each other without any ulterior motive or interest and seeking a kind of inner peace that struggles to reveal itself, yet they persist in their travels and nothing, actually no, the moment I felt the most connected was when she stops along the coast on a gray and windy winter day with the beauty of the sound and the vision of the waves repeatedly crashing and receding, beautiful piano pieces by Ludovico Einaudi serving as the soundtrack.
