With Voidgaze Dopamine Salad, Atom Lux builds a journey in ten stages, each one a gateway into a different corner of his psychedelic imagination. Pointless Madness opens the album like a sudden explosion: gritty guitars, sharp synths, and an energy that seems set on flinging wide open the doors of the multiverse. Bad Snake Good Snake is a game of sonic deceit, a musical snake that sheds its skin with every verse, weaving between irony and threat.
With Death by Small Talk you enter a bewildering panorama, an obstacle course where the very structure of the track mirrors the chaos of empty conversations it longs to escape. Black Mirror is a warped reflection: it starts as a lucid observation and ends up as a hallucination that swallows everything whole. J.I.B.B.E.R.I.S.H. flips the perspective and embraces nonsense as liberation, turning language into dance and color.
The second act of the album opens with Dance Plague Delirium, a track that advances like a collective fever, leaving the listener suspended between euphoria and unease. Stoned Monkey Heritage brings a psych-infused lightness, playful and delirious, an anthem dedicated to imaginary creatures moving in a world that’s distorted yet surprisingly vital. Spaghettification Apocalypse is instead a slow, mesmerizing descent toward a cosmic horizon, where everything stretches, breaks, and gets lost.
Mandelbrot! Mandelbrot! seethes with raw energy, a fractalized whirlpool in which every repetition opens a new spiral. The album closes with Toxic Easter Bunny, an ironic, corrosive finale that bids farewell to the listener with a crooked smile and one last psychedelic burst.
Together, these tracks create a sonic journey that doesn’t ask to be understood, but experienced.
