LA RECENSIONE

Ah ok, an album of Jannacci covers by the Arpioni. Like Jannacci in ska version. Yes and no. Yes for some tracks, those on which the band probably understood they could really nail it. On the most famous track (or one of Jannacci's most famous, E la vita l'è bela) they go all in with the recognized ska formula. But in most cases, we're more in the territory of a mixed reggae that merges with the almost jazz-like arrangements of the brass section and a pop aftertaste reminiscent of the 50s and 60s, of jukeboxes in smoky bars on the outskirts of Milan playing the "canzonette" of Italian music (as well as maybe some rock n roll tracks worthy of a Celentano playlist). So let's say the Arpioni have taken hold of Jannacci's material well, making it their own. It's the difference between those who want to mimic the greats by doing soulless covers... and then you go do karaoke somewhere... And the Arpioni who put their own stamp on it. Meaning soul and mind. Brilliant!

Summary by Bot

Arpioni’s album revisits Jannacci’s classics with a creative mix of ska and reggae, enriched by jazz-like brass and nostalgic 50s pop elements. The band avoids mere imitation, instead stamping their own soulful identity on the material. Notably, their ska rendition of one of Jannacci’s most famous tracks stands out. Overall, the album is a brilliant homage blending tradition and innovation.
