After spending much of the autumn touring Europe with Biohazard, the Sardinian band Arhythmia reaches the much-awaited release of their new EP, “Time No Coming Back.” As often happens these days, self-production is the chosen path to be heard, a choice that has led the band to collaborate with some internationally renowned names.
Speaking about this work, I'd start by saying that we are finally facing a mature band with clear ideas on what to do, defining their stylistic path and offering fans highly appreciable songs. The start — with the title track — shows us the quintet's more 90s side, where groove metal with cutting-edge vocals and choruses are the undisputed protagonists. In “Long Slow Dance,” the tempo slows down, giving rise to a generally dark piece where sick riffs lead the way to Arhythmia's best calling card: “Y.o.l.o.” An electric track where rhythmic upheavals and fury go hand in hand, giving Jahred from Hed Pe (here as a guest) the opportunity to shine with a noteworthy vocal performance. A track that closely resembles early Korn. In “Crashing Into The Void,” another surprise emerges, the electronic soul of Arhythmia. A track that once again focuses on impact, alternating meditative phases and heavier ones until the central part where dubstep quietly sneaks in, giving it a new face. Dubstep is also found in the concluding track “Last Days,” generally solid but with a somewhat too melodic chorus to be featured in a heavy-oriented EP.
Sharing the stage with Biohazard is certainly no coincidence; this band knows its stuff regarding groove metal, and “Time No Coming Back” is clear evidence of that. The collaboration with Billy Graziadei (here as a producer), the U.S.-based FireWaters Studio, and Maor Appelbaum has given this EP an international breath, making it appealing. Interesting.
