Anthrax ranks among the undisputed protagonists of the thrash revolution dated 1986. And Among The Living is, in my opinion, their masterpiece. The album is an extraordinary cocktail of speed, power, anger, but also class. The title-track that "starts the dance" already lets you understand what this incredible album is made of.
Belladonna's voice (much clearer and more captivating than the other screamers of the thrash bands of that era, but no less powerful) perfectly matches the outbursts of Benante and the hard riffs of Spitz and Ian. Caught in a mosh is an anthem, as is I am the law, while the captivating N.F.L. and A skeleton in the closet lead to the other hit Indians, a classic of the band, which is still performed live despite the years and the many line-up changes. One world is another masterpiece of the band, while the acoustic guitar of A.D.I. is just a sweet introduction to the very hard Horror of it all. Imitation of life (
very violent) perfectly closes this fantastic album, which in my opinion should not be missing from the discography of any lover of good metal.
PS: don't condemn me, it's just my first review!
The album is excellent and among the best in Anthrax’s discography.
Joey Belladonna ... with his unique, clear, bright, inciting to 'moshing' voice ... makes us understand that, even in a genre not known for singers’ technical abilities, there is always the delightful exception.
This is Anthrax’s best album, a cornerstone of thrash metal, as well as one of the best albums.
The melodic voice of Joe Belladonna stands out; truly an extraordinary singer, in my opinion, and underrated by many.
