ANTARTE - Isole

(Megaphone Music / Good Fellas)

Isole is the title of the new album by Antarte, a Sicilian band with post-rock and alternative melodies.

The Antarte project was born in 2008 from an idea by Lillo Morreale, guitar and vocals, Paolo Vita, guitar, and Gabriele Castelli on drums.

In 2009, their first self-titled EP was released, while in 2013, Olio su tela, their first full album, was released as a meeting point between experimental rock and dream pop.

After a brief break, in 2016, the core of the band moved to Bologna, but felt the need to involve other musicians in the project, crucial for the construction of the sound that distinguishes their latest project, namely Nicola Benetti on drums, Nicolò Bosio on bass, and Urbano Pettazzoni as a multi-instrumentalist.

From all this comes Isole, an album that represents a true evolution compared to Olio su tela, both in terms of the themes explored and the instrumental fabric, which is denser and layered.

In 8 tracks, intense melancholic stories and memories are retraced, revisiting the theme of the island as an existential condition of physical and ideal barrier in an extremely heterogeneous key.
The album opens with Oasi, intense and melancholic, characterized by the presence of strings and distorted guitars that create a somber atmosphere.
The instrumental execution attempts to approach a psychedelic style, while the singing is more minimalist and detached.
Following is I tuoi giorni, much brighter, characterized by a singer-songwriter form that combines extremely clean and simple acoustic sounds with more subdued and dreamy ones.
Senza luna is sharp and tense, the first instrumental break of the album.
Nessuno and Scirocco convey awareness and at the same time melancholy, the first through an almost distressing, chaotic air, while the second through a style much closer to indie rock.
The album continues with Bolina, the second instrumental track that initially proposes a calm ambiance before exploding into a passionate roar where piano and strings dominate.

Castelli di sabbia creates a more carefree atmosphere, recalling distant memories through extremely emotional pop singing.
Finally, Buona fortuna closes the album in an energetic and warm manner, with an almost romantic air and post-rock that creates reassurance.
