THE REVIEW

The Canadian band Annihilator is back in better shape than ever.

Three years after their last self-titled album, the personal creation led by Jeff Waters releases "Feast" through UDR/EMI. Available both in the standard version with one disc and the LIMITED EDITION version with two discs, wherein the second disc consists of old remixed tracks.

Waters (who handles guitar and bass during recording) is accompanied by vocalist David Padden and drummer Mike Harshaw, gifting fans with nine tracks of technical and fierce Thrash where there is no room for the listener to react, to breathe. The first three tracks, "Deadlock", "No Way Out", and "Smear Campaign" highlight Waters' undeniable compositional skills, capable of delivering Riffs that are never trivial and dizzying phrases that are never overdone. Hershaw’s rhythm section is precise and powerful, and Padden’s voice is engaging.

The tracks "No Surrender" and "Wrapped" are beautifully menacing, while the romantic ballad "Perfect Angel Eyes" is also captivating. There’s never a dull moment, and if in "Demon Code" and "Fight The World" headbanging is guaranteed, in the concluding "One Falls, Two Rise", the three Canadians lay out all their stylistic influences in an 8-minute piece, between melodic breaks and killer outbursts. The peak of the album.

What can I say? Enjoy it because it deserves to be listened to and purchased. Old School Thrash is still alive and well in 2013.
