It's on the trail of a mature and productive compositional freedom that this album was born, grows, and has undoubtedly become a milestone of our times.
Sanacore is a huge magic bag that encloses scents, sounds, emotions all our own: Mediterranean, African, Arab. It is wonderful to listen to such a gem (which has all the cards on the table to become part of what we today call "world music") and to think that only a few years and a few kilometers divide us.
The general idea is that of a work that skillfully and dignifiedly connects tones and vibrations typical of the Neapolitan popular tradition (donated by the voice and mind of Raiz - Reeno at the time) which, like a journey to rediscover its roots, immerses itself in the sounds, colors, and shapes of African music and, to a greater extent, Arab, also thanks to the varied use of instruments and percussion that lead immediately to an almost ecstatic and visionary listening. All obviously combined with the unmistakable dark and mysterious atmosphere - now a trademark of ours, deriving its lifeblood from reggae but especially from dub; the latter elements that blend fully in "'O' sciore cchiù felice", "Maje", and "Pe' dind' e' viche addo' nun trase 'o mare": the first three tracks of the album which gradually aim at increasingly contaminated and Arabesque sounds, also accompanied by remarkable and evocative lyrics, which moreover characterize the entire record.
The title track is a straightforward and honest nod to the purest Neapolitan folk tradition, and this is reinforced by the decidedly "in style" flute of a guest of honor such as Daniele Sepe.
The subsequent "Ammore Nemico", "Sciosce Viento", and "Ruanda" are undoubtedly less imbued with reggae, but the quest for fusion and conjunction of different cultures and traditions continues: rhythms and rock and funk bases of the historic drummer Gennaro T, become extremely effective tools for narration and the assimilation of images and sensations from different ethnicities.
Thus we come to the very successful "Nun te scurdà", where the beloved reggae reappears in bold letters, accompanied by a strong melodic and emotional component.
The low frequencies of the always commendable Mario Formisano and the keyboards of Paolo Polcari (perhaps the most supportive pillar of the group), characterize the subsequent "Se stuta o' fuoco", with a clearly dub and electronic signature, as well as the track that closes the album, "Tempo".
The strong emotional charge of this album makes it very difficult to talk about it: the characteristic flavors and suggestions can only be understood and conveyed through listening, so that every word spent on it seems superfluous and inadequate. Talking about this album is like trying to describe the sensations, the smells, the colors that can be discovered in a Turkish (or even Neapolitan) market: wonderful, varied, and timeless.
