There is a question I keep asking myself that I can't answer: is it better for an album to be homogeneous or heterogeneous? It depends!
For an artist to manage to navigate through various genres or subgenres, they must have nerves of steel and such a dominant personality that it would overshadow the sun; but even a strong personality and a clear musical imprint may not be enough to seal an album in people's memories.

Alex G has been trying for over half a decade to let us know his influences, his loves, and his unique stylistic mark. In this latest work (Rocket), in tracks like Witch, Judge, and Big Fish, we can hear three different genres, explored without much thought, but we find the "Approved" stamp of G. The immersion in country and folk environments (Poison Root, the beautiful Bobby, Powerful Man, Rocket) is just a natural consequence of musical exploration with a patriotic vision, an awareness of solitude, and a lack of past; an asphyxiating but vigilant retromania.
