LA RECENSIONE

On October 15th, the Feltrinelli bookstore in Bologna, in Piazza Ravegnana, had the pleasure of hosting Alberto Fortis. The artist mentioned in his presentation that it had been 9 years since he last introduced new tracks. In fact, his last real recording effort was “Fiori sullo schermo futuro”, then, 6 years ago came the collection “Vai protetto”, and finally the live album “Annapolis”.

With this CD titled “Do l’anima”, Alberto Fortis celebrates 35 years of an artistic career, a celebration which from a timeline perspective cost him a rather long time: four years. Four years that resulted in 40 songs which our artist, after two months of pruning, played and selected until he reached the right number for this CD of unreleased tracks; here are the titles:

Alla mia maschera 0:54

Tu lo sai (feat. Biagio Antonacci) 4:36

Mi fa strano (feat. Roberto Vecchioni) 4:40

Do l’anima 4:07

Infinità infinita 4:56

Aldilà 3:56

È Semplice 4:06

L’Attimo 4:05

Suzy 4:23

Principe 5:03

Buonamore 6:12

Giving a foreign luster to the whole ensemble, a trend that has become established in the music world for some years now, is the American guitarist and arranger Carlos Alomar who boasts prestigious collaborations, such as the one with Mr. David Bowie. The final production benefits, besides Alberto Fortis himself, from Lucio Fabbri. The cover is emblematic: Fortis removes the mask revealing essentially nothing, because underneath the concealment hides… nothing! This is a signal that the artist is a sincere individual presenting himself as he truly is.

Contributing to “Do l’anima” are also Biagio Antonacci and Roberto Vecchioni. At the Bologna presentation, the singer-songwriter Mimmo Parisi also participated, who, in addition to taking home the autograph of a colleague he has always admired, recalled that in 2010 he covered one of the most popular songs of Alberto Fortis, “Settembre”.

Do l’anima” is a programmatic title: ‘do’ and ‘la’ are already music, notes already soaring in the October air. The lyrics of this album have the taste and value of his early artistic times. The themes addressed give importance to daily life, even though it is garnished with veils that seem unwilling to reveal everything. After all, it is the secret of singer-songwriter songs to let the light not shine on the entire sound and poetic landscape.

Besides the presentation on October 15 at the Feltrinelli bookstore in Bologna, the singer has planned a mini-tour to announce the good news: Milan and Turin (October 8 and 9), at the Feltrinelli in Genoa on October 10 (Via Ceccardi 16 – 6:00 PM), followed by October 16 in Rome (Via Appia Nuova 427 – 6:00 PM). It is worth recalling that Alberto Fortis, as a sincere and spontaneous singer, promotes his work not only with verbal illustrations and listening to the CD, but, which is truly commendable, by also hinting at the melody a cappella. On Lucio Fabbri’s advice, the line pursued by Alberto in this new work was to prioritize melody over all his other undeniable compositional skills. The album was released on September 30 and was officially presented on October 6 at the Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato in Milan (Via Rivoli, 6).
