The Profile

Кино (Kino) were a Soviet rock band formed in Leningrad and led by singer-songwriter Viktor Tsoi. They became one of the USSR’s most influential groups in the 1980s. After Tsoi’s death in a car accident in 1990, the band’s final release «Чёрный альбом» appeared posthumously.

Founded in Leningrad; active 1981–1990; core members included Viktor Tsoi (vocals, guitar), Yuri Kasparyan (guitar), Igor Tikhomirov (bass), and Georgy Guryanov (drums); associated with the Leningrad Rock Club; seminal albums include «Группа крови» (1988) and «Звезда по имени Солнце» (1989).

A single, lyrical review focuses on the 1985 album «Это не любовь...», framing Viktor Tsoi’s writing as intimate, realist, and non-heroic.
