Adam Green is known to most as a member of the Moldy Peaches, a New York duo (the other member, or rather, the other is Kymia Dawson) that has gained a certain fame in the underground scene, thanks also to the label that distributes them, Rough Trade (Libertines, British Sea Power), which has always produced artists of excellent caliber.
Friends Of Mine is a mine of small and great masterpieces, of songs that barely exceed 2 minutes, and that never deviate from the acoustic guitar + strings scheme. Despite this - and this is where the boy's genius lies - each song radiates a personality and originality that I haven't come across in a long time.
The main song of the album, Jessica, is dedicated to an American singer akin to Britney Spears and the protagonist of a reckless pseudo-reality show on MTV with her recent husband. The lyrics, set on music that has nothing aggressive or ironic, are marked by absolute sarcasm.
An album absolutely to have.
