1986. And here is the worst album by AC/DC, terribly recorded in Switzerland (what on earth were they doing there?). The sirens of failure had already driven away the good drummer Phil Rudd, and he was replaced by Simon Wright, hired through an anonymous newspaper ad... The line-up includes, besides the new drummer, Angus Young (lead guitar), Malcom Young (rhythm guitar), Cliff Williams (bass), and Brian Johnson (vocals).
The album was a disaster both commercially and critically, it even makes the useless "Flick Of The Switch" seem better in comparison, this is not AC/DC!! The songs that are somewhat salvageable (though not much given the sound quality) are Shake Your Foundation (almost a disco-dance-bleah), Danger, and Sink The Pink, the rest is virtually nothing or close to it. The sound is always the same, AC/DC style: rhythm guitar by the Young brothers starts, drums, Brian sings, chorus, Angus's solo, final chorus.
To be avoided.
The sound is much harder compared to usual, particularly in the title track that opens the album.
The whole album flows smoothly and pleasantly, perfect as the soundtrack of an evening in a pub.
Fly On The Wall is an underrated and underappreciated CD, much like Lemmy’s Rock’N’Roll, without realizing it contains tracks that are the band’s showpieces.
Playing With The Girls is a real punch in the teeth... I dare to define it as the first heavy metal track by AC/DC!!
