Many bands, upon reaching a certain point in their career, after being crowned as legends, start churning out endless compilation albums (See Kiss with 16 compilations, see also Alice Cooper with another 16 compilations...), naturally, each band has the right to have their own Greatest Hits collection (not as many as the aforementioned bands), and AC/DC could not abstain from this, but since they like to do few things well, without falling into a flood of compilations, they made just one that satisfies everyone. Of course, we're talking about "Bonfire," a beautiful box set with 5 CDs that explores the entire Bon Scott era (may the Lord bless him, immense Bon) and also presents the original version of the masterpiece "Back In Black."
AC/DC are the purest and hardest symbol of Hard Rock, no frills and carnival style makeup, just pure, granite-hard Rock blasted by instruments pushed to the extreme. AC/DC never needed Megastages or colorful costumes to rock; they just needed two guitars, a microphone, drums, and a bass to turn the world upside down. AC/DC have never been a circus act; their hard and biting music still pounds the eardrums like a jackhammer, and the raspy voices of their singers break the speakers of sound systems worldwide. Masterpieces like "Back In Black," "T.N.T.," and "Let There Be Rock" will forever remain in the rankings of the best albums of all time. To bear witness to the golden era of AC/DC, there is this wonderful box set, which is the holy bible for every youngster living for the Australian band of the Young brothers.
CD 1: "Live From The Atlantic Studio", recorded at the Atlanta recording studios in July 1977, contains hard and beautiful tracks like "Problem Child", "High Voltage", or the staggering "Whole Lotta Rosie" (listen to the guitar in this track to be left speechless) and also the very fast "Rocker". A charged CD that takes us back to the early days of the band. CD 2-3: "Let There Be Rock: The Movie CD", recordings of the Paris concert at the Pavillon in 1979, famous tracks sung live like "Walk All Over You", "Bad Boy Boogie", "Highway To Hell", "High Voltage", "T.N.T.", and "Let There Be Rock". One of Bon's last concerts before he passed away. An explosive performance like only an AC/DC performance could be. CD 4: "Volts", a collection of unedited tracks, live performances, and first versions of the most famous songs. It contains "It's A Long Way To The Top" and also less famous or unknown tracks like "Back Seat Confidential". CD 5: "Back In Black", the original version of the award-winning masterpiece by AC/DC with, of course, Brian Johnson on vocals.
In short, a must-buy for the fans of the band and a recommended purchase for those who want to enjoy the purest and dirtiest Hard Rock in the world. For the most extreme fans of the band (those who dress as schoolboys and imitate Angus and his guitar with a mop in hand), inside the box set, you will also find delightful gadgets like keychains and stickers.
I hope you enjoyed the review; in any case, "Let it be Rock".
