From the meeting between Claudio Orlandi (vocals) and Maurizio Polsinelli (piano), held in 1992, the core of the formation is born. It is precisely in those early years, marked by several collaborations, that some fundamental elements of Pane's musicality were established: the expressive energy inherited from bands like Doors and C.C.C.P., or the pursuit of a more ethereal and evocative expressiveness, infused by authors such as Debussy, Ravel, Bartok. In 1994, the encounter with rhythmic guitarist Vito Andrea Arcomano, who derives a significant part of his formation and sound research from progressive music, took place. From the collaboration of the three, the group's intense composing activity began, along with the creation of their first demos. The fruitful meeting with the flamboyant flutist Claudio Madaudo (1998) will cause a necessary expansion of musicality and an immediate enrichment of compositional and structural possibilities. The already "structured unity" of the group will be further strengthened later by the drumming of the solid Ivan Macera (2001). The rhythmicity of the drummer has caused no disturbance to Pane's "chamber" acoustics, but rather highlighted and enhanced its expressive power and references to dance. Claudio Orlandi's lyrics, when stemming from his individual production, are often called upon to excite the creativity of the musicians in a perfect compositional dialectic. In other cases, it is rather the musical lines that generate the idea to be followed for the verses. The polyhedral-Pane thus manages to give voice and music to the variety of inspirations that, born from the receptive disposition of the musicians, press to be expressed and experienced.
After several self-recorded CDs, in May 2003, Pane was released independently—an synthesis of the musical idea underlying the entire project. The work was very well received by specialized critics (excellent reviews appeared on portals such as Kronic, UDS, Rocklab, Musicaroma, Rockit, MP Roma, Sentireascoltare, GenerazioneX, Mescalina, Sonicbands, Id-Box, and the national newspaper Liberazione), also achieving numerous radio broadcasts. In May 2005, Rive, containing two new tracks (Open Stomach and Abu Ghraib), was part of the new work in production and distribution phase. In recent years, Pane has combined studio work with an intense live activity, creating sound and vocal performances with strong emotional impact. Over the past year, the band has shared stages with prominent musical acts (including Têtes de bois, Il Parto delle Nuvole Pesanti, El Muniria), and received important recognition (to mention a few, the award for best technical performance at the last edition of the Augusto Daolio City of Sulmona Contest, with the track "Termini Haus," and the Paolo Pavanello Award for songwriting).
Difficult, due to its eclectic nature, to categorize Pane's genre within precise categories. Indicative in this regard is what has been said about Pane in the magazine of the Social Workshops "Carta," describing a music made of "sudden explosions between suspended sounds," dynamics supported by vocal interpretation and reinforced by the natural evocative quality of the flute.
