Hello Falloppio...a pleasure to meet you...I’m new to this deSito...although I've been reading reviews of albums that interest me for a few years now...I must therefore ask you for "forgiveness"! Let’s put it this way: the Queen are also a fundamental part of my musical education, since my youth...I adore especially the first two albums and their atmospheres...and I don't think I'm being heretical if I say that their greatness also lies in the mixture of genres they proposed for two decades in their pieces...and with such a quantity and quality of hits. I'm not a fan of hits for their own sake,
from any artist, but denying their merit seems unfair to me...(let alone if we consider the current landscape of that useless and shapeless thing that people still stubbornly call "music" or, even worse, "rock"). Anyway, when from '91 after Mercury's death the mainstream "resurrected" the Queen to new life making them more than ever a fashion phenomenon, perhaps never truly subdued but instead emphasized by the movie from a couple of years ago), all of this really took a toll on me...they're certainly no longer a niche band, and Mercury (to return to your charming comment) is a character that inevitably evokes contrasts...in various situations he can become annoying, I understand that...but to stop at the character I think wouldn’t be fair. If instead I have to evaluate the voice, the charisma, and also the artistic side of the compositions and arrangements, honestly not including him among my favorites would be a bit like "betraying that young boy"...I don’t know if I’ve been clear, I hope so. Thank you, a big hug...

Thank you, Falloppio... maybe I've caused some chaos with the message replies... well, little by little I'll understand the "automatisms" of this original "tricksters" site... I bought the Deep Purple CD as soon as it was released... What can I say, great craftsmanship, they are lucky to still be where they are, a lot of respect. I have all their albums but honestly, if I had stopped at Perfect Strangers, I wouldn't have missed much (even though that means another 36 years of career!!) I like them but they haven't thrilled me for a long time... the class, technique, and craftsmanship are undeniable, but apart from some well-executed passages, I haven't heard truly memorable songs... I didn't expect them anyway because in all the albums from the Morse era, if you "change the order of the factors" (that is, if you mix the songs around and redistribute them differently across various albums), you hardly notice, and the result doesn't change... that's the feeling Deep Purple have left me for over 20 years... and this album is no exception... I repeat, they sound great, with taste and all, and it's wrong to expect the energy and approach of 20/30-somethings from 70-somethings or so, but the substance and atmosphere seem to remain the same... except for Purpendicular, but only because it was the first of the series and I believe Morse played many cards and emptied many drawers melodically in that album to "invest" in the future (whether you like the technique or not, he has it, even if for me it’s a bit boring) I can’t listen to all the other albums in their entirety, and they don't stand out much from each other... modern productions don’t help, they flatten and standardize sounds and arrangements... I also think there are always too many songs and thus a lot of filler... and it always ends up that personally the album loses direction or, wanting and trying to take too much... you lose your way. Damn, they don't need to prove anything to anyone anymore except to have fun and enjoy the most beautiful job in the world... so why not just 7 or 8 songs, like back in the day (this applies to many bands or artists)... they know what they're doing; of course, they can't all be 8 masterpieces, but if you already have 4 decent or good tracks (which this last album has) spread over 7 or 8 total songs, the quality of the final product increases... but if you scatter them among 12 or 13 tracks, goodbye... now these albums seem like big meatballs rather than journeys... I can't memorize titles, I can't listen to them from beginning to end and maybe start over once finished... This must mean something... and it's not just a matter of "time"... I believe that people like us who have known and lived through a golden musical era have developed a certain palate... and so the bar is always very high right from the start... Forgive my verbosity...

Hi Falloppio... a pleasure to meet you... I’m new to this deSite... although I’ve been reading reviews of albums that interest me for a few years now... so I must ask for your "forgiveness"! Anyway, when in '91, after Mercury's death, the mainstream "resurrected" Queen, giving them a new life and making them more than ever a fashion phenomenon—perhaps never more placated but even emphasized by the film from a couple of years ago—that really wore me out... they’re certainly no longer a niche band, and Mercury (to go back to your amusing comment) is a character that inevitably evokes contrasts... in different situations he can become irritating, I understand that... but I believe it’s unfair to stop at the character.
