Paramagia is the second album by the Milan-based band Abissi and represents a new journey into heavy, nervous, and magnetic rock. The tracks move between sharp, compressed riffs that recall the monolithic impact of the Melvins, with sudden bursts of speed and a massive drum sound that adds further drive and depth to the sonic framework. Everything sounds physical and dense, but never static. Layered onto this foundation is the voice, the album’s true signature feature: always distant, dreamy, as if it were coming from another room. The vocals, often used as bold and original refrains, forgo words to become a pure emotional instrument, creating hypnotic vocal lines that guide the listener more by suggestion than by meaning. The three instrumental tracks stand out, further expanding the band’s imaginative landscape. Grabovi alternates nervous guitars between metal and stoner with dreamy solos and psychedelic excursions, closing with a slow, immersive finale. Sequenze opens with experimental loops that evoke Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Flying Saucer Attack, while 3424 attacks head-on with scratchy stoner guitars and constant changes of direction, then melts into psychedelic arpeggios in the style of Kyuss. A coherent, intense, and deeply hypnotic record.
