Once again together, Justin Broadrick and Kevin Richard Martin, after collaborating in God and Techno Animal. Nothing has changed from the past. They reunite in this sterile and static project called Zonal. It is the metallic "Relapse Records" that disseminates the stripped-down sound hybrid. A widespread grayness highlighted right from the cover. Very few readable notes in the CD's internal booklet; the two sound manipulators do not need too many explanations. There are no instruments, no guitars; darkness and anguish I draw from a first and only listen. I don't want to go further, it's enough for me to talk about the work. Divided into two parts: six tracks, the first ones, featuring the solemn vocal participation of a certain Moor Mother, an Afro-American poet from Philadelphia; the remaining six completely instrumental tracks. Cold, infinite, tense Dark-Trip Hop that digs inside. Repeated, exasperated, cyclical notes. Industrial-Dub that at times reminds me of La Carne di Dio from the more experimental and electronic period of the late nineties. I come out of it dazed; fortunately, I am now approaching the last two tracks. Widespread rarefaction, increasingly impalpable, lethal notes; lack of air, cold sweat. Desire to drop everything, to go outside... but I must resist. The first notes of "Alien Within" spread in my home; alien, dazzling minutes that seem to come from the farthest space, from other worlds. A black hole that sucks you in. Emptiness, exhaustion, malaise; luckily, my women are coming home... "Hi Marina, hi Elisa"... I am saved... perhaps only this time... STARGAZER...
