THE REVIEW

1980s Punk-Hardcore from this Dutch band that focuses more on speed than on the structural complexity of the songs.

"Banzai!" contains 7 tracks of honest underground HC mostly sung in English (only 2 songs in their native language), comparable to the Central European scene of the period, particularly to many German bands (Vorkriegsphase, Upright Citizens, Slime) or from nearby Belgium (Zyklome A, Capital Scum).

Unlike other formations from the Netherlands of the period, here the merit is a decent singer who adds a certain cadence to the power, possibly predictable but never banal or awkward.

The songs all go in the same direction, those that stand out at first listen are perhaps "Alive" and the concluding "G.B.O."; probably the most complete (and the one I prefer) is "Lay Down", but it is the whole album that "gives the idea."

These were ZMIV in 1982, after a few years they will end up in oblivion along with many other groups, their unauthorized concerts, their "tours" (big word...) in a van...

Summary by Bot

Zmiv's 'Banzai!' offers a fast-paced, honest take on 1980s Dutch hardcore punk, focusing on speed over complexity. The album features mostly English vocals and draws comparisons to Central European punk bands. Standout tracks include 'Alive,' 'G.B.O.,' and especially 'Lay Down.' Despite their limited fame, Zmiv captures the raw spirit of the era.
