I was on hold with the technical support of a company from Friuli that sells hardware, and in the background of the message "... we are about to connect you with the desired extension ..." an anonymous yet familiar song was playing.
The reference was "All I Need" (instrumental) by AIR, but I thought it might be a knock-off due to royalty reasons.
After the call, I wrote to the sales representative of that company, pointing out the reference, and she immediately replied with, "Look, it's Zero 7 … I even have the CD at home … they aren't heard much around, but once in a while, you catch them on Radio Capital or Rai Stereo Notte."
I opened Amazon.com (a faithful aide for music searches) and Kazaa Lite (a faithful reservoir for those hungry for music … and with little money to get by), and in just a few hours, Zero 7 became the soundtrack of this dreary weekend in Trentino.
There is no review written (like this one) that avoids comparing them to AIR … the same groove, the same muffled rhythms, guitars and analog dinosaurs, voices that are objects rather than subjects. But if you try to forget the French duo and think only of this English duo … great album.
Oh .. the switchboard song is titled “Give It Away.”
