Lizard Records, already recently known for producing artists such as Nodo Gordiano, Zita Ensemble, and Morkobot, adds to its musical workshop a Chilean formation, Yonhosago, who stand out for their unusual offering, namely a crazy sonic fusion originating from a South America remembered "progressively" and historically speaking mostly for symphonic coordinates like the Argentine Bubu, Alas, the Brazilian Bacamarte, or their more folkish compatriots Los Jaivas.
A musical base that merges the most experimental meanders of Canterbury with surges of crimsonian hysterics represented by a Fripp-like guitar at times supported by an unsettling and minimal violin sound, a courageous experimental blend in the wake of the more established compatriots Akineton Retard. A kind of sonic cross-stitch, where the musicians are intent on weaving notes, resulting in an embroidery of an Henry Cow sock with colorful hues.
A minimalistic chamber Rock with an ambient flavor opens the dance of the album in "Deposito Ausente", a calm interrupted by a schizoid and sharp guitar that dictates law according to the black bible of the Crimson King, with an atmosphere enhanced by electronic insertions in the finale.
The numerous citations of King Crimson in multiple parts are decidedly more "Disciplined" in the intro of the second track "Enrique", almost merging the braininess of the early Belew period with the previous romantic aggressiveness, which blends perfectly with a sort of Zappaesque absolute freedom represented by the only vocal parts of the album. The subsequent tracks preceding the closing one wander a bit from the court, alternating cerebral and intense compositions that highlight instrumentally the hopes and fears of the Art Bears and the complexity of Henry Cow's "Unrest" revisited in a more modern reading with the presence of Synth manipulations.
If you appreciate such coordinates of Avant-Rock, you will find this "Descuento" of 2005 a graceful and essential work, which certainly presents various and evident sonic citations, but a remarkable reproductive effectiveness, if at the mere sight of the listed genres you take on the appearances of Barry Godber's famous painting, you will immediately click at the top right "Next review" or return to browsing other more or less shady sites of your liking.
