Third work published just a few days ago by the Polish Yenisei, exactly three years after the previous successful "Reflections".
And it is always the instrumental post-rock, so dear and indispensable to me, that is the proposed genre.
The cover image chosen by the band for the anticipated musical return is beautiful and iconic; the music they propose is a short journey, only 6 tracks lasting 35 minutes, for long stretches meditative and deep.
They managed to capture my attention from the first notes, and I didn’t have to wait for many listens to prepare the review; as always, I act on instinct, letting myself go, traveling with the mind.
They construct the songs by leaving aside the forcefulness of the guitars. Everything unfolds through a cautious, restrained path where the interplay of the two six-strings compensates each other, embracing and delving into prog territories of incomparable and evocative beauty. A never intrusive keyboard sound supports the progression of the other instruments for long stretches, adding further fluidity to the flow of the tracks.
I only examine "Insecure", which features a guest vocalist, as was the case in the aforementioned "Reflections". Everything fits, everything blends, everything works perfectly with the plucked guitar sound (and partly the voice itself) that reminded me even of U2 in their good old days... unfortunately...
Compelling work, among my pearls of this very sparse 2024.
Ad Maiora.
