Who knows this album? Well, I believe almost no one!
Yet, this record is one of those things that are worth pondering. But what is Yatha Sidhra? Well, I wouldn't really know, but every now and then I find myself holding an absolute masterpiece. "A Meditation Mass" is a progressive experimental rock album from 1973. But for my tastes, it's too experimental and even shocking.
Now I will tell you why:
1 - Yatha Sidhra was a German prog band that played indie! (Yes! That's right?).
2 - The album is unfindable (even online at astronomical prices).
3 - The record is hyper-influenced: symphonic prog, folk, indie, space rock, jazz, classical, electronic, heavy rock, lounge, and psychedelia.
4 - It is a meditation album (I recommend it to those who use a lot of drugs).
5 - There are particular legends about the musicians who played it: Rolf Fichter, Klaus Fichter, Matthias Nicolai, and Peter Elbracht.
I inform you that the copy I have in my hands is a reissue from the beginning of the millennium and even this is hard to find. The entire album lasts about 40 minutes and the track list is: "Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4". (Simple, right?). I must have listened to it at least thirty times, and what I've perceived are ethereal vibrations.
A brief space beginning with Pink Floyd-like rustles and effects leading into a melodic little Indian ditty (or rather, it seems to derive from Tibetan philosophy). Difficult to describe, but still, you enter another dimension (I would compare the intro to another famous prog album which is "La Bibbia" by Rovescio Della Medaglia).
In "Part 1", the rhythm is hypnotic with piano and flute elements and then enters a hostile atmosphere ("Part 2") where electric guitar and drums reign (excellent jazz arrangement) and push beyond the supernatural where a heavy solo shatters the world ("Part 3"). The "Part 4" is nothing but a remake of "Part 1", indeed the album ends as it began.
A continuous journey (complex, meditative, pastoral, atmospheric) that gives either chills or relief depending on your state of mind.
If you want to connect with God, this is a start, but if you believe in nothing, it's an excellent soundtrack to adapt to all the pleasant moments in your life. Always if you manage to find it!
It gives chills.
