THE REVIEW

Strange characters these X-Mary.

They seem like teenagers just starting out, locked in a single rehearsal where they unleash their virgin creativity in different directions, in seemingly only sketched songs, with lyrics thrown together haphazardly.

Brilliant amateurs, who dangerously swing between the ridiculous and the sublime.

The drunkard from the bar downstairs who enlightens you with unexpected pearls of wisdom.

The X-Mary are not amateurs, "Al Circo" from 2008 is their third LP.

14 tracks, plus a ghost track, innocently naive that follow one another without logic, without a style. They don't set boundaries. What is certain is that they are illuminated by a reckless creativity.

What to say about the cabaret-like absurdity of "GIACOMINO RE DEL CIRCO" or the bossa nova of "FATIMA"?

Are they serious or just pretending?

Obvious symptoms of schizophrenia are found in "ILDEBRANDO", "CARLO MARTELLO MAGNO", "IL MANUALE DI CORTEGGIAMENTO" and "DEBBY CRASH", frenzied shards, a handful of seconds of PUNK CORE.

Confirmed and certified schizophrenia by the languid "MARCO TI AMO" or the SIMIL FUNK of "RUSAMADA" and "MOTORINO".

An album, like the previous and better "A Tavola Con Il Principe" that leaves one bewildered by its stylistic variety but highlights an unpredictable, ironic group with a rare compositional flair.
