X JAPAN is a Japanese rock/metal band formed in 1982, known as a pioneer of the visual kei movement. Led by Yoshiki (drums, piano, composer) with vocalist Toshi and guitarist hide, the group is celebrated for combining aggressive metal with symphonic ballads.

Formed in 1982; influential in visual kei and Japanese heavy music; achieved notable success in Japan and internationally; hide (Hideto Matsumoto) is deceased (1998).
