THE REVIEW

WU-TANG CLAN - ENTER THE WU-TANG (1993)

Shaolin shadowboxing, and the Wu-Tang sword style.
If what you say is true, the Shaolin and the Wu-Tang could be dangerous -
Do you think your Wu-Tang sword can defeat me?

...

...En garde, I'll let you try my Wu-Tang style...

"The Velvet Underground represented the underground of the Big Apple"

So do we, so do we!!! - Wu-Tang Clan

Minimalism in Rap. The revolutionary approach to lyrics, beats, atmosphere.

Atmosphere.

Crazy stuff. RZA destabilizes everything, attacks, burns in the obsessive repetition of that motherfuckin', you don't even have time to recover from that En Garde, spinning around for no reason, just because you feel the need to do something sensible in all that placid confusion - BANG!
A drop of water implodes, the beat, the damn beat...

Ghostface, catch the blast of a hype verse/my glock bursts, leave in a hearse, I did worse/
I come rough, tough like an elephant tusk/Ya head rush, fly like Egyptian musk...

The katanas of this New York group literally chop off all heads (Liquid Swords docet), truth is, the voice of this Ghostface Killah isn't the best, it's just an impression, but who cares then, yeah, blah blah blah, it's perfect...

They debut with a slap in the face to all those gangsters of the Old Rhyme - these guys mean business.
The crystalline perfection of the Verse, its distortion, the raw nakedness of the words, no doubt - it's not the russian, it's the Wu-Tang crushin' ...

Even the sadly notorious Notorious B.I.G. will be inspired by these lunatics, he too will want to put even his underwear in rhyme.
Sooooooooooo bring it oooooon...

Chock full of sound bites from old kung-fu movies, recordings of talks between various group members, the album is one of the best in all of RAP...do you despise it right from the start because I say RAP? despise your closed-mindedness, do it first, you who hate this genre from the get-go, which, yes, has produced piles and piles of useless Nonna Pina noodles, but has also contributed a lot to the world of modern music. Complete the triad of black music (blues-jazz-rap/hip-hop) you won't regret it ...just find the right titles... Space is potent - maybe a little too potent.

Pointless to mention song by song, pointless to write the history of the group for those who don't know it, this time Wikipedia does the dirty work - WU-TANG CLAN
I have to respect the limit, sometimes...

I grew up on the crime side, the New York Times side/staying alive was no jive/
At second hands, moms bounced on old men/so then we moved to Shaolin land...
