Hello to all users, this is my first review. To start, I chose the album "Il giorno del giudizio" by Woptime. The group was formed in 1999 in Turin, (one of the cradles of Italian hardcore). This is their second album and it was released in 2001.
"Il giorno del giudizio" consists of 8 tracks with a total duration of less than 16 minutes, the music proposed in the first six tracks is hardcore with many metal influences, very similar to the works of the New York scene at the end of the '80s (Agnostic Front and Sick of it All above all) while in the last two there are many callbacks to Oi! since the seventh song "Torino è la mia citta" is a cover of "Rough" legends of the street punk from the Savoyard city, and the last "Woptime" is a self-celebrating stadium chant in oi-core sauce.
From a musical point of view, despite having only one guitar in their lineup, they unleash remarkable anger and power, thanks also to the good skills of the drummer, although they do not offer anything new compared to what has already been heard. Now let's talk about the lyrics, in my opinion, the weak point of the Turin combo. The themes are the usual ones of hardcore music: family, unity, fight against drugs, and the desire to change things. Perhaps these themes are "overused," so our four adapt, unable to say anything new and treat everything with too much superficiality, stuffing it with many gratuitous and, in my opinion, unnecessary vulgarities (they don't even use them to make rhymes!).
In conclusion: a decent group that does not add anything new to our local hardcore scene; good angry hitters but nothing more; destined to play a minor role in the glorious history of Italian HC music.
Rating 3, the result of the average between 3.5 for the music and 2 for the lyrics, rounded up.
Greetings to all
