Without Gravity, a name that fully reflects the music proposed by the Icelandic band Without Gravity.
An interweaving of seemingly simple yet impactful melodies with a melancholic flavor.
It opens with the beautiful "BEAUTIFUL SON" which closely resembles Jeff Buckley, followed by the folk melodies of "COUNTRY" which greatly recall classic American ballads.
Then we move on to the song of the same name as the band "WITHOUT GRAVITY". Here, the atmosphere becomes much more subdued and sad, surely reminiscent of Damien Rice... perhaps one of the least successful tracks of the whole lot, along with the following BLUE BIRD.
From the next track, WATERFALL, the album showcases all its splendor. It's impossible to remain indifferent to the melodic backdrop created by the acoustic guitars at the heart of this piece, and the beautiful voice that accompanies the ending, somewhat reminiscent of Tom Yorke from the more introspective Radiohead.
We reach the sixth track "MOVIN ON BACKWARDS", and we return to a very pleasant American-inspired piece with a typical country-style ending.
CLOUD IN YOUR SKY, on the other hand, seems like a tribute to Nick Drake and is a truly magnificent piece alongside the wonderful TEARDROPS and its so sweet and melancholic chorus... a classic track to listen to during moments when one indulges in pleasant memories...
WOLF RIVER and BEEN LET DOWN close the album, once again leaving us suspended by these melodies that certainly add nothing in terms of originality but remind us that most of the time it's simplicity that wins. Two acoustic guitars, a double bass, and percussion alongside a voice that recalls many illustrious names, sometimes do more than one might expect, especially from a semi-unknown band.
