But is this double disc called "Hypnotic Dream" any good? Oh yes, very much so... Because it's a not so common band in a not so common scene. The best Southern Rock from the boot comes from Udine (!) A paradox as strange as it is interesting. Tricolor pride! A band respected in the community, followed with interest by industry professionals and enthusiasts worldwide, it is one of the most beautiful musical realities of the genre in recent years.
Led by the legendary bassist/singer Fabio Drusin, they boast collaborations with Johnny Neel, for example, the keyboardist famous for his time with the Allman Brothers Band. But they don't end their tricks up their sleeves here for the skeptics, and so here are some fiery jams with another popular underground band, the Tishamigo, and as if that weren't enough, they are thick as thieves with Warren Haynes and his Mules. The skeptics of "yes, but Italians can't..." can finally find peace and take a sonic journey into the deepest America with Drusin and his band.
"Hypnotic Dream" - released here in a double re-edition with a bonus CD -, begins with the aggressive "Going Lazy", where Jimi Barbiani - now the former guitarist of the band - strikes riff after riff while Drusin on bass and Bencich on drums drive with a cohesive and laborious groove his guitar, sometimes wickedly slide. Drusin alternates a "processed" singing style like Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan" with a vigorous energetic Rock style typical of a certain American Rock; emphasizing certain passages with harmonica, giving the whole a very roots style. The three bring us to the roots of a certain Rock played with passion: from the dark and introspective "Dance with the Devil" - with a suave and superlative Neel - to the Black Crowes-esque "Can You Feel Me", from the enthralling groovy Boogie Rock of "Boogie Man" and Neel's Hammond recreating that very American atmosphere, to the great party of the final jam of the first CD, "Hypnotic Dream (improv. in G.)".
There is room for historical gems like "Hoochie Choochie Man", a song that takes on a harder edge, to the Jam of "Spoonful" from the second CD; the second CD in which there are other gems like the acoustic version of "Over The Sun", a piece contained in another CD... But that is another story... But how great it is to buy this double disc at a delightful CD stall while Drusin and the W.I.N.D. Clan are having fun in the area with a pint of beer in hand? Very much, oh yes...
