WHITEMOSQUITO - Superego
(OrzoRock Music)
The Genoese band White MosQuito returns with a very powerful and aggressive concept album, Superego.
The underlying theme of the work, as can be inferred from the title, is the ego and the different faces it can have depending on the person it possesses, and in these ten tracks, the band manages to perfectly represent what it set out to do.
The album opens with "Complice," which leaves the listener stunned due to the aggression contained within the sound, which almost overshadows the lyrics, and suggests a strong '70s rock influence, in the style of Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, especially in the sharp and frenetic guitars.
It continues with "Rivoluzione" and "Destino," the first screams of an inner revolution, uncontrollable and ruthless, while the second speaks of change, of the absence of reaction due to fatigue and lack of conviction.
"Contrordine" calms the spirits and the desire for aggression by moving to a slower but still raw and ruthless rock (in perfect Afterhours style; both because of the interpretation and the lyrics).
"Male in pillole" is the first single released from the album and is perhaps the most penetrating track: "Close your eyes and believe that to avoid pain you are willing to swallow this evil in pills."
Following are "Per non morire" and "Senza amore," both very direct and with similar themes: the absence of feelings, coldness and cynicism, the absence of love, while "Vorrei" and "Hey Man" instead seek truths hidden behind reflections and vices.
The album finally closes with "Da qui," a track that stands apart from the other nine songs, both in terms of the sound style, more peaceful and relaxed (no metallic effects, no pounding rhythms nor distorted guitars) and in terms of lyrics no longer angry, no longer aggressive but intense.
