THE REVIEW

I was listening to the early White Lies, the ones that hit it big: was it free will or luck? I don't know. I like them and I don't care, but... I ask myself again, and I really don't know what the hell to answer.

Today I have their second album in my hands. They may be good, quite good, or very good, but you can't even smell a hint of brilliance from afar.

"Ritual" is not a step back, but not a step forward either. The White Lies should have faced their destiny. Cowardly, they dodged it sideways.

Until the next opportunity (?).

White Lies

White Lies are an English post‑punk revival trio from London, formed in 2007 by Harry McVeigh, Charles Cave and Jack Lawrence‑Brown. Their debut album To Lose My Life... topped the UK Albums Chart in 2009, and subsequent releases expanded their dark, synth‑laced sound.
