On October 7, the new album by White Lies was released, simply titled Friends, published 4 years after the previous Big City. And the new tour has already been announced, with some dates scheduled in Italy.
Take it out on me is the first single to open the album; it continues with Morning in LA and Hold back your love, more pop-rock tracks, very melodic, which will immediately resonate with their fans.
The fourth track is titled Don’t want to feel it all, a ballad very close to the style that has always characterized them (rock-wave, indie); the tone shifts with Is my love enough, a track with an electronic base and 80s wave references. The B-side of the album doesn't leave a lasting impression, except for the one noteworthy piece, Come on, with a very rhythmic pace. Here the voice becomes warmer, at times recalling their first work.
The sound of this album, while remaining essentially similar to their style, made of electronic textures, Simon Gallup (bassist of the Cure)-like bass, dark yet always melodic voice, seems to have taken a more easy listening direction, yet at the same time more solid. In conclusion, the work, while not transcendent, is well arranged; all the tracks are of decent quality. Perhaps the epic song is missing, but unquestionably the London boys have shown over the years that they are not a one-hit wonder, but a rock group with clear ideas, capable of reviving the English new wave.
