LA RECENSIONE

With the new year come new releases from Der Blutharsch And The Infinite Church Of The Leading Hand in the form of a mini CD in collaboration with White Hills. White Hills won't be unknown to those who frequent psychedelia and acid and space-rock sounds: the American group, founded in 2005 by Dave W. (guitar and vocals) and Ego Sensation (bass and vocals) has over 40 releases under their belt, including albums and various collaborations with names like Acid Mothers Temple and the same Blutharsch in the 2010 single Today I Want To Catch Clouds. They also participated in the soundtrack of the film Only Lovers Left Alive by Jim Jarmusch. White Hills have also received enthusiastic reviews from guru Julian Cope and are considered very influential. It's no surprise they've decided to join forces with Albin Julius: Dave W. is indeed, perhaps a little surprisingly, a fan of Der Blutharsch, Current 93, Coil, and post-punk groups like Virgin Prunes. On the other hand, it has been a long time since the Blutharsch have changed their skin, becoming a psychedelic group even if they still remain dark. The 5 tracks of Desire are characterized, in the style of Albin Julius's latest productions, by liquid and expansive sounds right from the first track "Nom De Guerre" where we can hear a nice pulsing bass. In the following track "Await The Moon", we enter territories close to ritual psychedelia with Marthynna's hieratic voice leading the dance accompanied by a sinuous carpet of keyboards and appropriately acidic guitars. The title-track wraps us with its mantric spirals and post-punk rhythms with the bass in great evidence: indeed, the love for certain sounds has never abandoned the Blutharsch! In "Sig" the keyboards are expansive, cosmic and very space-rock creating a pleasant hypnotic state while the concluding "Lover" is a mystical hypnotic dance led by the ever-talented Marthynna. Highly recommended to followers of the cult officiated by Albin Julius and lovers of psychedelia. Available on Bandcamp at the following link: https://derblutharsch.bandcamp.com/album/desire.
