But what do I know about why I find these guys likable. True, they're not very useful, not very original, too influenced, full of means justified by the end. Yet their touch fascinated me right away.
The album in question is the latest work (released last year) by White Denim, the skinny Texans.
The ability to be appreciated by yours truly in previous works ("Fits" and "Explosion" above all) pushed me to delve into this album as well, with the inevitable delay that characterizes me. And what a nice surprise when you're not a victim of expectations when you take things lightly, and you're not afraid to be taken aback. You find yourself in front of a guarantee without pretensions. So what do you do: waste a little gas to find a nice spot, maybe in the countryside (but not in company), pull the handbrake, sunglasses on, seat down, door open, arms crossed behind the head and shoes crossed on the steering wheel. And play.
The approach of this Corsicana Lemonade compared to other albums is less frenetic, and you can feel it (too much). It's a bit more refined and therefore less authentic, always fine and elegant: it looks a bit like those who play a nice Gibson in a tailcoat.
Constantly focused on the massive yet incredibly clean support of the groove generated by bass and drums, White Denim in this work also puts attention on lively and well-crafted guitar textures, which accompany a not very versatile voice but one that fits well with a Dave Matthews Band-like genre, more on this album than on the rest of their discography: this also means slipping in some negligible and forgettable ballads, which from my point of view aren't the group's strong point.
Who the heck cares about influences, genre, etcetc. Here's proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdUKpevKYQE
Really? Terrible terrible? Oh well, never mind.
