THE REVIEW

I discovered We Are The Ocean a little less than a year ago, a few months after the release of their latest and second album: "Go Now And Live" (this one) and it seems like a nice record to me.

Out of curiosity, a few months later I listened to the first EP and the first album: horror. My reaction was as follows "Oh! Uh! Damn, I had never heard a band improve so much from a horrible debut" I had seen the opposite too many times, however (it's not hard to name a band that has done this). Yes indeed, when it comes to the embarrassingly bad first EP and a little less so the first album "Cutting Our Teeth" they sounded like some kind of Truzz-Screamo(?) no less plastic than any Lady Gaga. The positive note of the time when they played that genre is the voice of the then clean singer, very nice and close though inferior to Dallas Green of Alexisonfire.

Instead, with "Go Now And Live" there is a change of genre, the now Ex-Screamer(?) who couldn't be listened to before, begins to sing seriously alternating his rough tone of voice with that crystalline tone of the other singer, creating a not bad effect. Perhaps the best song on the album is the opener, a very "2000's British" (No, seriously what the hell does that mean? well, I have no idea but I had to find some expression to describe it) where as in the whole album they play on the contrast between the two voices and a simple structure, very easy to listen to and easily memorable. In the end, we are faced with an album that has little innovative, but it flows very well, bland pop rock. But cool.

We Are The Ocean move away from a saturated genre to one still not very original, yet demonstrating a great improvement and excellent potential that they could express if they develop a more characteristic and personal style which, who knows, could help them emerge. They are promising. We'll see.
