LA RECENSIONE

Finally, one of the albums I was most anticipating for 2009 has arrived, that is "Babylon" by the immense W.A.S.P.

Having found the album, I prepare to listen to it, expectations are set high, I press the play button on my CD player.

The opening is entrusted to "Crazy", the first single of the album (there are rumors of a possible video) the attack immediately reminds us of the historic intro of "Wild Child", but slowly the piece takes shape and shows its own personality with a listenable and enjoyable aura. Thus begins the next piece "Live To Die Another Day" and here too Blackie and company reign supreme in terms of sound and personality, from this track we begin to notice that the album is less aggressive than previous ones but the choruses and various riffs are always very engaging. We arrive at "Babylon's Burning", another stunning track full of grit that will surely immerse you in the album's apocalyptic atmosphere. It is followed by "Burn", a very interesting track considering it's a cover of a piece by a legendary band, the Deep Purple. "Into The Fire" is the ballad of this album, always in very apocalyptic and profound tones, leading us then towards "Thunder Red" and "Seas of Fire", both very incisive.

The closing of the album is entrusted to "Godless Run", a very dynamic track, and "Promised Land", another cover taken from the repertoire of Chuck Berry.

The album impressed me both for its originality and for the technical execution of the pieces, where a very inspired Doug Blair delivers deep and breathtaking solos, followed by the trusty Mike Dupke on drums, one of the most technical drummers to have played in the ranks of W.A.S.P.

Even though it is less aggressive, this album manages to convey a lot of energy and grit, proving to be a very profound album with its own soul.

Folks, there's a lot of anticipation when a new Megadeth album is released, which always ends up being a disappointment, but when an album like this comes out that truly rocks, no one says anything, despite the fact that W.A.S.P. have hardly missed a beat in their career. After 20 years of music, making such a super album is no easy feat!

Fully approved, definitely one of the best albums of 2009!

Like a good wine, the older it gets, the better it improves.

Even though 30 years have passed, it’s always nice to have certain confirmations from a band that has never let down its fans.
