Think of those who take terms like "vintage" or "revival" literally.
No, not the usual time-wasters. I mean people who are serious about it.
Sure, they might be hipsters without a trace of a beard, people with a very naïve demeanor and far from any real empirical knowledge of the '80s.
They are destined to receive jeers and taunts.
They may, perhaps, be forgotten soon.
But that's not the point. The point is that I like the experiment.
American kids who love new wave, pop from thirty years ago, and certain recording methods and instruments. They haven't released a CD or a vinyl. Just a cassette tape. Reconstructing exactly what the past was like, as if transported by a "time machine".
I don't think anyone has seriously thought of something similar in recent years.
If you listen to this release, you will believe me. Nothing exceptional? In itself, there is NOTHING exceptional if we consider the product from a strictly compositional/instrumental point of view.
Nothing exceptional even when assessing the proposed genre.
But listening to this tape (sorry, but I only downloaded it from the internet), you'll be struck by: melancholy, déjà vu, and nostalgia. Certainly more than myself who, unfortunately, did not live through that time frame personally.
Their name is Washed Out and they seem to be serious about it.
