THE REVIEW

The French have always had a good inclination towards that type of music "made in 10 minutes with Rebirth."

Pascal Arbez (aka Vitalic) on his part, calmly took 4 years before releasing (but it would be more trendy to say "synthesizing") an appropriate framework for his successful "Poney EP," dated 2001. A new flagbearer of the 'french touch', unlike various artists such as Air or Daft Punk, he has always felt more at home on rave dancefloors and in underground clubs, rather than in ordinary discos.

The reason is quickly understood, CD in hand: far from isolating himself on tracks of wild and liberating techno (the hits "Poney Part 1 & 2", the incisive "La Rock 01" and the rowdy "My Friend Dario"), the panoply displayed here reveals an intrinsic savoir-faire in mixing ambient elements reminiscent of Kraftwerkian memory ("The Past", "Repair Machines"), acid rock ("Newman" "No Fun") with generous splashes of electroclash. They remain in somewhat less demanding electronics "Wooo", "Trahison" and the curious intro "Polkamatic", which merely serve to dignifiedly fill the contract, allowing us meanwhile to catch our breath.

"U And I" and the eclectic "Valletta Fanfares" close the circle with some effort, without clashing too much, but perhaps a bit abruptly slowing the lively and distorted rhythm that has carried us here, between a guitar riff (coming from who knows where) and a synth one.

01   Polkamatic (01:52)

02   Poney, Part 1 (05:23)

03   My Friend Dario (03:37)

My friend Dario has a super mega car
Drives too fast, drives too flash
The noise the wheels make screeching on the tarmac
Echoes in his head, then echoes in his pants

My friend Dario has a super mega car
Drives too fast, drives too flash
Doesn't care about a crash

Dario knows it's prohibited,
You either drive or either drink
But he can't resist the pleasure
To down a bottle before a trip

My friend Dario has a super mega car
Drives too fast, drives too flash
Doesn't care about a crash

My friend Dario has a super mega car
Drives too fast, drives too flash
Doesn't care about a crash
