Rating: The Virginiana Miller return three and a half years after “Fuochi fatui d’artificio” with a work that will surely mark their career, because if the previous one failed to match the delicacy of “La verità sul tennis” and “Gelaterie sconsacrate”, the new “Il primo lunedì del mondo” comes pretty close.
We have in front of us a rich and varied, yet still homogeneous album (the only splendid “oddity” is the power and English language of “Frequent Flyer”) thanks to solid foundations and rather meticulous studio work. But regarding them, it is perhaps useless to talk about musical technique, what and how they play, etc. In fact, to fully understand their work means, in my opinion, to consider it as texts turned into poetry accompanied by excellent music, measured sometimes bright and thrilling, sometimes faint and gentle. Music that decisively underscores the attentive and splendid writing of Simone Lenzi. Lyrics that range from one horizon to another: a bit engaged (“La carezza del Papa”), “ironically in love” and vaguely abstract throughout the album.
A record to quickly recover from sudden falls, aware of the need to know how to float to avoid sinking again (in this regard, listen to “Acque sicure”). And this is precisely the concept that Virginiana Miller conveys to us, certainly deserving much more fame thanks to their mix of classic Italian cantautorale pop and artistic passion.
