LA RECENSIONE

It's difficult to explain how, in the ordinary and obscure sea of simple and banal things, always the same, a cobalt blue gleam, a golden lightning bolt, can slip away completely unnoticed. There probably exists some mysterious dimension, in which musicians are no longer people, but beings endowed with shining souls that give birth to different thoughts and something unreachable to humans, managing with music to weave embroideries...

Released in September 2006, "Fuochi fatui d'artificio" (an emblematically extraordinary title) is the new album by Virginiana Miller, the fourth. The album leaves speechless even those, like me, who have followed the group from the beginning, since the dawn, who expected at this point something extraordinarily new to be able to say once again that they are completely satisfied. And it's not so much the new that surprises, in a style so personal that it is effectively a trademark, the sound is always similar to itself, but what is impressive is the further step towards perfection this time truly caressed if not entirely captured and prey. The construction of the tracks has reached a cold essential minimalism that has discarded the already rare superficial frills and is shown in its mechanical, brilliant, and absolute framework.

Throughout the 11 songs, I find myself, the one from 13 years ago and the one from now, I find the love at 20 that I had erased, I find the things I've experienced, the things I've done wrong, I find the summer parties, the people who stayed, the people who passed, the Commodore 64, the secret kisses and everything else.
Describing songs like "Per la libertà", "Formiche", "Dopo la festa", "Onda" and all the others is an exercise that is rarely up to the task. The heritage this group is leaving to our national music is of inestimable value as inexplicable as their remaining in the shadow unnoticed.

But perhaps in the end, this is a good thing.
