VIRGINIA WATERS - Skinchanger

(Jap Records)

The Virginia Waters, an indie rock "supergroup" from central Italy led by Maria Teresa Tanzilli, will make their debut on February 21st with Skinchanger.

The project was born from the singer's need to bring to life songs that had been kept in the incubator for over a year but required the involvement of a real band. This necessitated the inclusion of: Andrea Spigarelli (Wonder Vincent) on drums, Andrea Mattiucci (OH! EH?) on guitars, and Giulio Catarinelli (Quiver With Joy) on bass.

Skinchanger is a work of great impact.

In 10 tracks, the phases of personal evolution are retraced with intensity, among strengths and weaknesses, cries for help and pride, between disorientation and mental immobility. A battle with no winners or losers.

On a sound level, one encounters a drum that almost touches rhythmic perfection, a bass sometimes very intense, sometimes more pounding, and moody guitars, sometimes distorted and aggressive, other times clearer and harmonious. All of this is overshadowed by the frontwoman's voice, beautiful, powerful, violent but also very sweet and delicate when needed, ever-changing just like the whole album.
