How many would have killed for Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain or Layne Staley, during the first half of the '90s? That voice of teenage angst perfectly put to music by the entire grunge movement.
More than twenty years have passed since that time, and it is very difficult to still be standing and able to release highly anticipated albums that are credible, raw, with intense and authoritative socio-political texts.
Sure, the rage that once made Seattle bands great has long since faded.
But suddenly it reappears in a modern key: brain drain, job crisis, and political instability mirroring an Italy in difficulty, wars that are increasingly personal and economic, veterans left to their own devices waking up homeless and slumped in street corners, the weakness of the healthcare system, and the ignorance consciously produced by the government — a typical reflection of American society!
This surprising band, half American (Los Angeles) and half Italian (Rome), has united two cultures, two traditions, two different types of instability and socio-political troubles, two nations still eager to shout, raise their voices, and try to change or at least awaken the souls of the resigned, because music serves just that purpose, to deliver a message and be a revolutionary leader that reaches everyone with the power of a sincere, true, raw scream.
The overall sound of their first album brings back to skin and bones the memory of the most tormented souls of the latest great movement that rock music has been able to produce. (Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and at times the early Pearl Jam). Well done, indeed very well done, to record a real album without editing or patching mistakes. Very well, because if you speak of truth, you cannot hide behind a fake image. Music is sincerity, spontaneity. WELL DONE!
Listening to this record today is like embracing an old friend again, hosting them within the walls of our homes, and sipping together this excellent whiskey we call "VIOLANE".
Produced by the genius of Tim Starnes (music editor of The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Avatar), just to name a few works, Genius! Yes, and perhaps also a Saint, like Saint Francis, because he surely worked hard and sweated a lot, and do you know why?
Ah yes, here comes the beauty of this project. The entire album was recorded by the band remotely, without ever trying, playing, or seeing each other. The songs were written by the two minds in Los Angeles, singer John Clinebell and guitarist Alessio Miraglia, and then sent, I believe, using Dropbox or Drive, to Rome where bassist Andrea Ottaviani and drummer Riccardo Chiodo completed the arrangements and recorded their instruments, sending everything back to the sender (Tim Starnes), who then mixed it all (SAINT)... stuff that would shake every musician.
The result is stratospheric.
An album that moves you, kicks you, envelops you, and shakes you practically in a few words, to listen to and say to that Friend:
"Stay here and let's pour another glass of whiskey."
Presented as a preview at the legendary Whisky a Go Go, a historic venue on the Sunset Strip (Los Angeles).
