For several weeks I have been waiting for this day and it has finally arrived.
Today I will see my first Capossela concert, in my own city no less. The venue is fantastic. Even though I am from Macerata, I had never entered the Arena Sferisterio before and I must say it is truly wonderful. After almost an hour of waiting, he takes the stage to the notes of "Brucia troia". Vinicio is dressed like a minotaur, and in this outfit, he greets a fully booked Sferisterio just for him. That is followed by "Non trattare", a song from his latest album "Ovunque proteggi". Immediately after, "Medusa cha cha cha" begins with Vinicio forgetting the words, and I think: "Is he already drunk before starting?"... Then it is time for "Moskavalza" with Vinicio dressed as a Russian captain and a nice glass of vodka in hand. And then "Marajà", a classic from the maestro, with him dressed in a funny typical oriental outfit and the band wearing masks with animal faces. What follows is a goosebump-inducing "Lanterne rosse": him alone at the piano.
Then comes "Corvo torvo" with Capossela dressed in an immense black cloak, squawking like a crow, indeed. Not to mention the entire setlist, let’s say that the classics of Vinicio alternate with songs taken from "Ovunque proteggi". Particularly noteworthy, however, is an extraordinary performance of "L'uomo vivo" with a crown of flowers on his head and a shower of flower petals over the spectators. Also noteworthy is that during "Al veglione", while engaging in some sort of tarantella, one of his shoes flies off and then he kicks off the other, why not. The one who worked the hardest, anyway, was the girl who continuously brought lit cigarettes and glasses of wine to Vinicio...
Even two endless encores follow with Vinicio in great shape, having fun like crazy and simply not wanting to leave the stage. In the last half hour, the entire audience was on their feet to sing and dance with the Marajà. Three hours of music gone in a flash in the best concert of my summer. Thirty-five euros for the third row were well deserved... they still ring in my ears... VI-NI-CIO VI-NI-CIO!!!!!!
